It is my great pleasure to invite you to a series of Kazakh cultural events organized by the Embassy of Kazakhstan in cooperation with the Cultural Tourism DC and the Asia Foundation.
The exhibition of the replicas of golden, silver and bronze findings discovered at the archaeological sites in Kazakhstan as well as traditional Kazakh music performed by an authentic folk group from the Mangistau region of Western Kazakhstan will be featured at the events to be held on May 16, 17 and 22.
Please find the detailed event programs below and I encourage you to take the opportunity to acquaint yourself with the fascinating culture of Kazakh.

TALES OF ANCIENT NOMADS AT THE EMBASSY OF KAZAKHSTAN

Embassy of Kazakhstan proudly presents a unique lecture on ancient nomads
to be delivered by the renowned expert, Dr. Alma Kunanbay
Don’t miss your chance to get acquainted with mysterious rulers of the Kazakh Great Steppes through an insightful lecture by Dr. Alma Kunanbay, Visiting Professor at Stanford University with a recognized background in ethnomusicology, cultural anthropology, storytelling, and linguistics, who teaches such courses as “Nomads of Eurasia,” “Women in Islam,” “Folklore, Mythology, and Oral Literature of Central Asia”, “Women, Music, and Islam in Central Eurasia”.
In 2001-02 Dr. Alma Kunanbay served as a curator and consultant in Central Asian nomadism for the Smithsonian Institution to prepare for the 36th Annual Folklife Festival at the National Mall in Washington, DC.
A splendid collection of replicas of ancient Kazakh gold to be presented during the lecture with Dr. Alma Kunanbay’s thoughtful insight in the history of nomadic culture, traditions and craftsmanship.
