The two delegations representing various ministries and agencies reviewed the current energy cooperation and discussed prospects for partnerships in the nuclear industry and on nuclear non-proliferation issues. Other topics included hydrocarbons, electrical power, alternative energy and energy saving techniques.

Both sides agreed to establish a Nuclear Security Training Center in Kazakhstan, help the introduction of technology that would enable vehicles to use compressed natural gas and clean coal technology. They also considered ways to develop shale gas and coal bed methane in Kazakhstan. It was agreed to work together to improve energy efficiency in the industrial sector, develop Kazakhstan's geothermal energy sources map, improve mechanisms for regional energy trade and strengthen the reliability of the local transmission system.

The Joint Statement and the 2012-2013 Joint Energy Partnership Action Plan were adopted. Both advance bilateral energy cooperation.

Minister Mynbayev held a meeting with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chu and U.S. Undersecretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment Robert Hormats. They discussed a wide range of energy issues.
