Kazakhstan – United States Convention: “The Road to Astana Expo 2017: Shared Prosperity and Dynamic Development”


This year, the 3rd annual Convention will be held at the U.S. Institute of Peace on December 8, 2015. The theme is The Road to Astana Expo 2017: Shared Prosperity and Dynamic Development, reflects the exciting prospects for opening the U.S. National Pavilion at EXPO 2017.  The Expo's theme is "Future Energy" and will introduce the burgeoning opportunities the Kazakhstan - U.S. partnership presents through the New Silk Road Initiative in Central Asia and Kazakhstan's successful accession to the WTO.

Given the importance of the Convention, the keynote speakers will be Her Excellency Zhanar Aitzhanova, Minister of Economic Integration of Kazakhstan, the Honorable Dr. Celeste A. Wallander, Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and Senior Director for Russia and Central Asia on the U.S. National Security Council, Senator John Hoeven R-ND, Congressmen Dana Rohrabacher R-CA, Alcee Hastings D-FL, Mark Meadows R-NC, Jeff Fortenberry R-NE, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee D-TX and other prominent members of the U.S. Congress, as well as the Honorable Bruce H. Andrews, Deputy Secretary of Commerce, Mr. Kurt Tong, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs and other distinguished guests. We are also expecting Kazakhstan officials from the Ministry of National Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture, JSC “National company “Astana EXPO-2017”, the Atomic Company "Kazatomprom", JSC “Samruk-Energo”.

The Convention provides an important and timely opportunity for participants to join the Government of Kazakhstan and the leadership of the United States Departments of State, Energy and Commerce, as well as Kazakhstan and U.S. business executives, to explore prospects for strengthening strategic partnerships and identifying new business and trade opportunities in shared priority sectors: agriculture, environment, renewable energy, infrastructure, IT, tourism and transportation.  As a member of the WTO, new vistas and opportunities have been made available to Kazakh and American businesses.
